JACK FROST RESPLENDENT IN THE MAHARAJA JIWAJIRAO SCINDIA TROPHY, GR.2
Jack Frost winning the Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia Trophy, Gr.2
This veteran of the track, Jack Frost (Kingda Ka-Breeze And I) had won seven of his 25 career starts, and as a seven-year-old was not ready to call it quits, winning his third Group race, the Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia Trophy in great style. The Vinesh-trained gelding, won his last race a year ago, has raced four times since then, and lives up to the adage that ‘old is gold’ for he has been kept going to compete and win.
Raees was followed by stablemate Caprisca as the gates flew open, and they were followed by Jack Frost, Vulcan and Phoenix Tiger. The pace picked up at the 5f marker but the order remained the same. The order did not change as the heads turned for home, at which point Caprisca set out to challenge the leader with Jack Frost in hot pursuit. The fast moving Jack Frost was impressive as he got into the lead from Raees while Caprisca began to fall back. Vulcan was pushed to keep up with a challenge. There was no stopping Jack Frost as he went on strongly to pass the post 2¼ lengths ahead of Vulcan who managed to pip Raees into third by a head. The favourite Caprisca disappointed finishing a further 3½ lengths in fourth. Phoenix Tiger who was running after almost a year was last in the five horse field, and should hopefully roar again soon.
I have most often, not been able to see the finish of races that Jack Frost wins, as my attention is drawn to his enthusiastic owner Mr Peter Deubet, who apart from donning his racing colours, moves almost as fast as his horse on the members lawn in front of the Grandstand. He starts parading from one end to the other, the tempo is slow at first but as victory looms large on the screen, he is in an energized gallop, and as his horse wins, there is a loud yelp of delight. It is fascinating to watch.
