Great Stakes On Offer This Bangalore Summer Season

Come rain or sunshine racing must go on for there’s lots to be won with almost 18.50crore stakes on offer for the Bangalore Summer Season. With the first of the Classics over, all eyes are on the Colts Classic, with the top two star performers ready to take on each other with eyes on the biggest prize of all. The result of the Colts Classic will clearly indicate whether the rest of the contenders, and those that ran the fillies Classic, have much to look forward to. We preview the form of the top contenders as well as others that should do well this season.

PUNJABI GIRL (Win Legend-Chapmans Peak)

She produced a scintillating run from the back of the field to clinch the Fillies Championship Stakes, Gr.1 winning by ¾length ahead of Realmsofantasy. Originally from Hyderabad she won three races there before moving to Bangalore. Trainer Donald Netto’s loss has been trainer S S Attaollahi’s gain. She ran fifth to Dancing Dragon in her first outing in Bangalore and then, with a change of equipment produced the winning run. Her sire has already produced Classic winning fillies and they also seem to have inherited the ability to stay the distance. Her connections must be closely watching the outcome of the Colts Classic in order to plan her next move.

SIR CECIL (Win Legend-Elusive Trust)

This full brother to Hall of Famer is ready to make his mark in the Colts Classic having won his last race over 7f by 18 lengths from Catalonia, who finished fourth in the Fillies Championship Stakes. He looks set to conquer with a challenge expected from Star Superior. He looks hard to beat and this will be his stepping stone to the Derby.

STAR SUPERIOR (Excellent Art-Ramjet)

He has won three of his four starts losing out to Corfe Castle in the Poonawalla Breeders Multi-Million by 3¼lengths. He then came out and won the Shapoorji Pallonji Juvenile Colts Championship Stakes over the mile by 5¾lengths before heading for Bangalore with an eye on the Classics. He came out and won the Youngsters Million by a similar margin and is now raring to go in the Colts Classic. He knows what he is up against so it will be race worth watching.

ISN’T SHE LOVELY (Excellent Art-In The Spotlight)

The first foal from the Multi-Classic winner In The Spotlight had had a single win over 7f where she beat Different League by 1¼lengths. She improved on that run beating her by about five lengths, though it was not good enough to take on the impressive performance of Punjabi Girl in the fillies Classic. With only one run under her belt she was running low on experience and should improve much under the tutelage of trainer S Padmanabhan who trained her mother to achieve great glory on the track.

CATALONIA (Air Support-Cesandri)

She started her career in Hyderabad with a win over five and a half furlongs, finished a neck behind Realmsoffantasy in the Byerly Turk Million, and a length behind Punjabi Girl in the Godolphin Barb Million. She then came out and won the Forbes Breeders’ Juvenile Fillies Championship Stakes over the mile, looking a picture in the paddock before the race. She then finished way behind Sir Cecil in Bangalore before making an appearance in the fillies Classic. She ran a rather disappointing race after she was installed the favourite to win, finishing 3¾lengths behind Punjabi Girl. She will most likely be seen contesting the regional Classics.

CORFE CASTLE (Excellent Art-Miss Danehill)

This full brother to Ruffina won his maiden outing in Hyderabad and then came second to Athenaeus in the Darley Arabian Million by 3¼ lengths. He worked brilliantly before his run in the Poonawalla Breeders Multi-Million and that work transcribed in his run in the race where he came with a scintillating run from the rear of the field to win by 3¼lengths from Star Superior. He has had a bit of a setback and his participation in the immediate Classic is unlikely. He will be one to follow.

Others that should do well this season are:

MEA CULPA (Multidimensional-Yana) who won her first race over 7f and can repeat; PSYCHIC FORCE (Multidimensional-Psychic Light) who shed his maiden status over 1100m this season; CERISE NOIR (Win Legend-Cerise) who won her first outing over 6f; NEW CREATION (Multidimensional-Tarnished Lady) who won her first outing over 6f this season; CASTAWAY (Win Legend-Angels Glory) who could win third time out when tried over a longer distance; KNOTTY ASH (Gusto-Dovers Hill) a winner first time out over 6f; CAPRICIOUS (Gusto-Vivacity) Unbeaten in three starts over 6f and 7f having won his maiden in March this year; RIKKI TIKKI TAVI (Excellent Art-Stravello) who won his maiden outing over 1100m and then was second to Star Superior in the Youngsters Million over 7f; VENUS BAY (Green Coast-Hunting Hawk) who won her maiden outing over 6f.
