MONOMOY GIRL TAKES FOURTH GRADE ONE RACE

Three year-old fillies were on display Sunday at Saratoga and the Kentucky Oaks winner Monomoy Girl turned out to be an easy three length winner of the $300,000 Coaching Club Oaks. It was the fourth Grade One victory in a row for the strapping daughter of Tapizar and increases her earnings now to $1.65 million with eight victories from nine starts. It was supposed to be a match race in the five horse field against Kentucky Oaks third Midnight Bisou from the Steve Asmussen barn. However she was no match for the front running winner and lost by an easy three lengths to the winner who went off as the 1-2 favorite and was ridden by Florent Geroux.
The interesting story here is the trainer Brad Cox who is based out of Kentucky and who has been training for about fourteen years. Monomoy Girl is his first Grade One winner, and according to insiders has built a career on cheap horses and Chad Brown and Todd Fletcher rejects. Clearly he has already started getting better The future of the barn looks good.
As for Monomoy Girl the question is how good is she. How will she do against older fillies and mares such as Able Tasman and Unique Bella? Only time will tell around November time.
