Princess Lalitya Kumari
[dropcap]P[/dropcap]rincess Lalitya Kumari, grand daughter of the Late Rajmata Maharani Gayatri Devi, and the daughter of Princess Priyanandana Rangsit, is a passionate patroness of Indian Polo and an ace rider in her own right. Learning to ride at her grandmother’s farm in Jaipur at the early age of 5, she has come a long way, always having found time between studies or work, to fulfil her passion for riding. Trained by the Brazilian Olympian Gold Medalist, Nelson Pessoa in Belgium, and subsequently in Australia by the Australian Show Jumping Champion, Chris Chugg, she has achieved her own laurels, and aspires for many more.
She has won the Thailand Show Jumping Championship in 2007, secured second place in the Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix Asian League, and has been participating in the prestigious FEI
South East Asian World Cup League for many years. She is currently a Publisher and a Museum Curator. Princess Lalitya Kumari and her elder brother Maharaj Devraj Singh of Jaipur are also the founding members of The Rissala Polo Club. On Saturday, 10th October 2009 Princess Lalitya Kumari and Maharaj Devraj Singh of Jaipur instituted and presented the Her Highness Rajmata Gayatri Devi Polo Trophy to the Rissala Polo Club at the Classic Golf Resort, played in memory of their grandmother. This trophy will be played annually at this club. Her Late Highness Rajmata Gayatri Devi of Jaipur was a great Patron and promoter of Polo the world over.
