STAR SUPERIOR SET TO WIN THE DECCAN DERBY, GR.1

The Bangalore summer showcased the talents of the top two horses in the country Sir Cecil and Star Superior, though their rivalry has taken a break during the monsoon season. Sir Cecil choose to maintain his level of form by contesting the Mysore Classics winning the 2000 Guineas with ease and is now set for the Derby in three weeks time. It was a natural consequence that Star Superior was sent to Hyderabad where he won the Deccan Colts Championship Stakes and is now set to add the Derby to his list of achievements.

In the four-horse field of the Deccan Derby, Star Superior (Excellent Art-Ramjet) will face two of the contestants over whom he has already asserted his authority in the Deccan Colts Championship Stakes, Corfe Castle (Excellent Art-Miss Danehill) and My Opinion (Dialled In-Love Me Good). Evon Von Brando (Net Whizz-Private Collection) is the fourth contestant who has entered the fray. If there was a true stayer in the field the connections of Star Superior might have had reason to worry but in the absence of such a situation it appears that he will be able to do what is expected of him. Corfe Castle, the full sister to Ruffina has immense talent which has been proven up to 7f. My Opinion, has won the Nilgiris Derby and the Governor’s Cup in Hyderabad over the mile but has not been able to share the class of his opponent.

The progeny of Excellent Art that has shown stamina limitations when up against Sir Cecil should use this race to prepare for what lies ahead, when the two meet and the rivalry pick up in the Indian Classics. There are whispers floating that Star Superior might make the trip to Pune for the Pune Derby.
