STAKES ACTION AT BELMONT WITH THE FLOWER BOWL AND THE FRIZETTE

Fourstar Crook

Most of the main action on the weekend was centered around Belmont Park with the running of the Flower Bowl for Fillies and Mares on Turf and Juvenile Fillies in the Frizette. The ultra consistent Fourstar Crook finally got her Grade One victory in the $500.000 Flower Bowl Stakes by coming from last to first under super jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. The daughter of Freud is now a six-year-old and trainer Chad Brown had nothing but praise after the race not only for the horse but also for the owners. Every winter they have been sending her down to Florida to rest up and every year she comes back bigger and stronger. She will take her chances in the Breeders Cup with hopes to improve on her impressive record of 12-4-1 from nineteen starts. Of course she is no Winx or even Sistercharlie, but an each way bet on her next month might be a very sound investment.

Jaywalk

Winner of the $400,000 Frizette Stakes for two year old Juvenile Fillies was Jaywalk, trained by John Servis and a $190,000 purchase at Keeneland in 2017. She has now won three of her four starts by a combined 14¾ lengths and she now gets an automatic berth for the Breeders Cup. Her previous victories had come at Parx and Delaware Park, and this front running victory resulted in a 5¾ length score under globe-trotting Jockey Joel Rosario. Jaywalk fought off the challenge of Covfefe, who faded badly, to win going away in the Juvenile Fillies.
