SIR CECIL WINS THE FIRST LEG OF THE INDIAN TRIPLE CROWN- THE VILLOO POONAWALLA INDIAN 2000 GUINEAS, GR.1
Unbeaten in seven starts, impressing every time he steps out on the track, Sir Cecil (Win Legend-Elusive Trust) was embarking on a journey which could see him do what ten others have done before him, win the Indian Triple Crown. He is without doubt a deserving candidate and one can be sure that he will prove it on the track. The on-money favourite in the Villoo Poonawalla Indian 2000 Guineas, Gr.1 did what was expected of him, by winning the first leg of the Indian Triple Crown from his main adversary, Star Superior by 1¼ lengths in 1:36.00secs. While his earlier margins of victory have mostly been in double digits one can expect that to be difficult on the big stage, when he is up against the best.
Star Superior was gallant in defeat. He has lost once to Corfe Castle in the Poonawalla Breeders Multi-Million in Mumbai and then, only Sir Cecil has got the better of him on three occasions. He will persist. He will search for the chink in Sir Cecil’s armour. He will stay on to fight and prove that he is not only the second best.
Sacred Roman put in a good run but was part of the beaten brigade finishing third 6¾ lengths behind Star Superior. He is bred to stay, so the Derby distance may see him do better. Awesome One and Bushtops had a neck separating them in fourth and fifth respectively. They were followed by Intense Stylist, Excellent and Jetfire.
