PIRAMAL POLO VICTORIOUS IN STERNHAGEN POLO CUP
The finals of the Sternhagen Polo Cup was thrilling to say the least, with Madan Polo unable to get the final advantage accepting defeat as twilight rose over the polo grounds at Mahalaxmi.
Piramal starting with a 1½ goal advantage took the lead with a superb goal from Gonzalo off an assist from Dhruvpal in the first 30 seconds of the game. Madan Polo then opened their account when Simran Shergill scored off a penalty in the 6th minute. Madan was on a roll when Vishal Nihilani, a top player ran with the ball shrugging off a challenge from Dhruvpal to score a second goal in the dying seconds of the first chukker helping Madan Polo close the gap at 2-2½.
With absolute confidence Simran remained dominant scoring his second goal in the second chukker to take a half point lead for his team 3-2½. Playing a bit rough Madan Polo had to accede to a penalty in favour of Piramal Polo which was easily put away by Dhruvpal helping Piramal Polo get back into the lead.
Dhruvpal scored again early in the third chukker to take Piramal into the lead by 1½ points. An erring tackle in the second minute helped Madan Polo secure a penalty which was put away by Kuldeep Singh getting Madan Polo back in the game. That was for a brief while till Harsh Piramal scored. More excitement was ahead with Dhruvpal scoring a long goal to help Piramal take a lead of 6½-4 in the fourth minute of the third chukker. Madan Polo weren’t giving up and their determination led to Piramal Polo erring with a penalty being taken in superb style by Kuldeep Singh, thereby bridging the gap to 6½-5 by the end of the third chukker.
A fourth goal by Dhruvpal sent Piramal Polo into a comfortable lead in the fourth chukker. Madan Polo tried their best and even when a penalty scored by Dinyar Madan for his team in the final 42secs of the game brought them closer they had to accept defeat with the final score at 7½-6 with Piramal Polo enjoying their victory.
