THE HYDERABAD MONSOON RACING SEASON 2019

The Hyderabad monsoon season commenced on 18 July, 2019 with a 28 race day season set to conclude on 28 October 2019. Total advertised stakes for the season is ₹10.59 crores with trophy value of an additional ₹17.93 lacs. The outlay of stakes is expected to go up further following the division of races. The ratio of stakes to horses offered by the Hyderabad Race Club is the highest in the country standing at ₹2.46 lacs per horse.
There are 20 “A” licensed trainers and 31 “A” licensed jockeys/apprentices at this centre. As always outstation trainers and jockeys will invade this centre for the prime races. 670 horses are stabled at this centre which includes 171 two-year-olds. Around 499 horses are expected to hit the track this monsoon season, competing hard for their share of the stakes on offer.
In their endeavourer to bring new talent to the riding fraternity the Apprentice Jockey Training School has inducted 12 enthusiastic youngsters into their training program. This one of a kind school that is run by the HRC conducts this training program over a period of two and a half years with ex-jockeys imparting guidance and assistance to budding new jockeys.
The HRC has introduced two new pools to the list of existing pools on the tote: the Third Horse Pool (THP) and the Mini Jackpot Pool that will be operational during the Monsoon racing season. So try your luck!
Fixed Odds Betting is available at designated counters at the racecourse and are operated by M/s Razor Gaming Company from 19 July, 2019. The wager is guaranteeing a potential specified payout at the time of placing a bet, in the event of the horse on which the bet has been placed finishing successfully in terms of the rules that govern that particular pool/s of FOB. Some of the salient features are:
1) No receipts less than ₹100 inclusive of GST for Win/Place/SHP/THP shall be accepted at Fixed Odds Betting (FOB) terminals and in multiples of ₹50 thereof;
2) Placing of odds will be at the sole discretion of the Fixed Odds Betting (FOB) operator;
3) Any investor may invest an unlimited amount, Win or Place, SHP or THP on any horse, but acceptance or otherwise of bets beyond liability of ₹1000 at the odds shown on display, shall be at the discretion of the FOB operator.
HRC has started operation of a tote counter at a newly built complex, wholly owned by the club at Enikepadu, Vijayawada.
The imposition of GST at 28% has had a terrible impact on HRC as well as all other racing clubs in India. Prior to July 2017 the average tax was 7.5%. Prior to the introduction of GST turnover at the Totalizators of the Club was ₹1275 crores and after the introduction of GST on 1 July, 2017 the turnover dropped to ₹760 crores for the year 2017-18. For the year 2018-19 the turnover has dropped further to ₹630 crores, representing a fall of nearly 57.5% as compared to the year 2016-17. A drop of 9% has been observed for the period ending June 2019, taking the overall fall in turnover to almost 66.5%. The committee of the HRC is leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to help the Turf Authorities of India fight their battle for the survival of racing, which can only happen with a reduction in the level of GST levied on the sport.
