THE PUNE MONSOON SEASON 2019

The Monsoon season in Western India commenced in Pune on 25 July, 2019 with 23 race days scheduled, the season concluding on 26 October, 2019. Two Group 1 races, the Indian St Leger to be run on 22 September and the Pune Derby to be run on 13 October, will be the key highlights of the season. Advertised stake money for the season is ₹8.19crores.
A total of 940 horses are stabled in Western India comprising of 288 two-year-olds; 246 three-year-olds and 406 four-year-olds and over. A total of 46 trainers hold licenses for the season, 38 with “A” licenses and 8 with “B” licenses. 87 jockeys hold licenses with 74 holding “A’ licenses and 13 holding “B” licenses.
Twelve Group races will be run. Two group 1 races; One Group 2 race and 9 Group 3 races. As always the Millions add flavor to the season and there are 5 worth fighting for.
There was much speculation as to the condition of the track. With the unprecedented amount of rainfall the track has stood the test and efforts to make this happen should be applauded.
