CAPRESE PRODUCES ANOTHER GROUP WINNER IN CONSIGILIORI
The Kunigal bred, Vittal Deshmukh-trained Consigiliori (Air Support-Caprese) has worked his way up slowly but steadfastly into Group contention and absolutely shocked the Bangalore challengers when he raced to victory in the Deccan Derby, Gr.1. He has won four times from nine starts, first over the 6f trip, then 7f, the mile and now the mile and a quarter. He has proved to be another progeny of his dam Caprese that seems to go the distance, with every chance of adding more Group glory to his list of achievements.
Consigliori made every post a winning one as he took the lead in the seven horse field from Royal Crystal and Tetra Rama, Artistryy and Cape Kidnappers with Well Connected in close call and the back marker Impavid. Passing the mile marker Well Connected decided to move up with the field. With Well Connected deciding to move closer, Impavid took the cue and moved on her outside running three deep. As Consigliori picked up the pace, Royal Crystal was forced to do so as well. Artistryy and Tetra Rama found it difficult to keep with the increased pace and were already being pushed. One expected this of the local challengers, but what came as a shock was that the two Bangalore challengers that had garnered favouritism were seen struggling as well. Both were off the bridle turning for home and looked to be in serious trouble. P Ajeeth Kumar astride the local challeneger Consigliori, timed his race perfectly and kept going to the line with a length to spare at the post to Royal Crystal. Both Impavid and Well Connected were left wanting, finishing in third and fourth respectively. Questions will be asked and explanations sought for the disappointing performance of the Bangalore challengers, but it cannot strip the sheen from the outstanding performance of Consigliori.
His dam has raced 20 times and won seven of her races over 6f and 7f trips, never successful over longer distances. Her progeny however have left their mark on the track when traversing longer distances. Admiralty was the winner of three races from four starts, once over the mile, including the Karnataka Juvenile Million; Captain Morgan, a proven stayer has won five Group races including the South India St Leger, Gr.2, the D Khaitan Memorial Calcutta Gold Cop, Gr.2, and the Stayers’ Cup, Gr.1. And now Cosigliori arrives on the scene with a Group I victory.
