VIJAYS SINGHAM – LEITIR MOR’S FIRST CLASSIC WINNER

The Laxman Singh- trained Vijays Singham (Leitir Mor-Zarandja) won his first race over 1100m by a phenomenal 10 lengths making one take notice.  He won two more races over the 6f trip and when tried over the mile did not live up to the first impact he created. There couldn’t have been a more opportune moment then the Golconda 2000 Guineas, Gr.2 to prove his point again.  Consigliori was the favorite having come into the race straight of a win in the Deccan Derby.  My Journey had just beaten Gift Of Grace in Chennai and demanded is fair share of the betting, so much so that Vijays Singham was available in double digits. It’s a good thing horses cannot read the odds for this bay colt gave his all to give his sire Leitir Mor his first Classic win.

Consigliori had every intention of running the rest of their feet taking the early lead, closely followed by My Journey. Victory Parade and Premier Action followed, with the Mumbai challenger Majestic Warrior next ahead of the back marker Vijays Singham. They maintained that running order till Majestic Warrior started inching his way forward though running three deep. As they took the turn for home Consigliori put his plan in action and started to pull away. Majestic Warrior who kept the pressure on the leader tried to keep with the heightened pace. With horses leaving the rails as they turned into the straight Vijays Singham grabbed the rails but still had to contend with the front runners and My Journey that was ahead of him. Realizing that the rails was not going to work anymore jockey Y S Srinath switched him on the outside of Majestic Warrior and with every stride he gained on the leader showing a tremendous turn of foot to win by a neck from Consigliori. While all eyes were on the impressive victory of Vijays Singham one failed to see the Mumbai challenger get relegated to fourth by Victory Parade.

This win is not only a reward to top owners Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta and Mr Susheel Kumar Gupta but also the Poonawalla Group where Leitir Mor resides.
