FALLON LANDS RIBOT CUP
Cieren Fallon, in the center, won the Ribot Cup
The British Champion apprentice Cieren Fallon won the 13th edition of the Ribot Cup, the popular challenge for young jockeys that takes place at Pisa. Fallon, 20, came back from Florida and he landed the first leg of the challenge when pushing home Admiral Rooke (Rock Of Gibraltar) to score his first win in Italy. There was a family connection in the victory, as Cieren’s father Kieren had ridden the winner’s dam Qenaa (Royal Applause). The young rider finished second in the second leg with the veteran Groor Archipenko) and clinched the decisive points in the third and last contest with a fourth-place finish on Land Of Freedom (Desert Prince). The Italian Riccardo Iacopino, who won the second leg, finished second from the Italian-born but British licenced Stefano Cherchi.
Another Italian apprentice based in the UK, Marco Ghiani, landed the third leg with Miss Chievus (Johnny Red Kerr). It was the first win in his home country for Ghiani. Franco Raimondi
